If you’re a publisher that has written recently about a person, product, event, service, news subject, or event created some type of review, one of the best ways to make your content rank higher in search engines is by including Schema.org markup on your sites relevant content. However, there are not a lot of great resources out there that clearly show how to add Schema markup to WordPress sites.  

Schema markup allows a publisher’s content to provide rich snippets to search engines in the search result for users. It provides things like Google with more information about a topic or term; thus creating a better result for people seeking information. Here’s how to add it to your posts and pages…

Schema markup can help provide rich snippets in search results for a number of things. It could be anything from including stars in a review that would appear in search results or a defined answer to a question that would appear at the top of search results on mobile.

Schema.org markup can provide potential visitors more information that will make your content more attractive in the SERP.

Add Schema to a WordPress Site

One of the easiest ways to add Schema markup to WordPress websites is by using a plugin. There are a lot of them, and almost all of them have written blogs about this subject. Unfortunately, most are biased and do not provide users with the easiest way to simply provide Schema markup to posts and pages.

Most publishers only want Schema on certain pages of their site and want to do it for a number of different reasons. If you fall into this category, avoid customized review plug-ins and the alike. They only make things more complex and this means more things that can go wrong when implemented on your site.

The most flexible and easiest to use plug-in for Schema markup on WordPress websites — in my opinion — is the All In One Schema.org Creator.

We’ll show you how to use it below, but take note, not all plug-ins work on every site. Ensure that your site is backed-up or that you have ensured that the plug-in will work on your version of WordPress before implementing.

Adding Rich Snippets To Your Search Results

Once installed, activate the plug-in. You can now add Schema.org org markup to posts and pages. It will appear at the bottom of your editing screen and will not change any live site information unless you decide to implement Schema on those pages or posts.

Go into your review inside of the WP page/post editor and then find the area add the bottom that says configure rich snippets and select item review (or whatever snippets you’d like to add to your search results) from the drop down menu. Fill out the info and save your post. You now have Schema markup on that page. It’s easy and will allow you to eventually rank better for your review.

Did it work?

If it worked, congrats. If it didn’t, I’m sorry. This is the easiest way to add Schema to your site. Every site is different and that means that not all processes work the same way across the board.

If everything appears to be working but you don’t see the results updated in SERP yet, don’t worry. Search engines can take a bit of time to index these snippets (anywhere from 1-6 days usually). It may happen faster if you can drive some new traffic to those pages.

If you have a good social media following of any kind — or places where you like to share content — try posting those pages there. The increased traffic may help the new additions be indexed faster.
